Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a massage technique based on the Ayurvedic system of healing practised in India for over a thousand years. The head, neck and shoulders are massaged allowing for an effective means of subtle relaxation. Combining Indian Head Massage with the Marma points (Marma points are specific energy points on the body used for healing in Ayurvedic medicine) restores energy and balance to these areas by releasing tension in the soft tissues, joints and muscles.

After an initial consultation, the treatment takes place with you seated on a chair with extra pillows under your arms for comfort. The massage uses a range of different movements including some deep tissue work as well as lighter massage techniques over the neck, shoulders, arms and scalp. Gentle work is also carried out on the face stimulating various pressure points. Many people experience a general feeling of well-being and calm as well as relaxation of muscles during and after treatment.

Benefits include:

  • Dispersal of toxins from tense, knotted muscles reducing tension, muscular pain and encouraging relaxation
  • Stimulation and improvement of circulatory and lymphatic systems
  • Improvement of joint mobility
  • Higher levels of alertness and concentration - improved memory
  • Increased positive attitude towards life
  • A feeling of being energised
  • Improved sleep patterns
